History

The NC Citizens Committee for Better Schools had its origins in the National Citizens Commission for the Public Schools incorporated in 1949. The commission's goal was to help citizens establish committees to work closely with local schools to solve problems and improve the schools overall. The NC Citizens Committee was incorporated on March 11, 1959. Its members included D. Hiden Ramsey and J.M. Reynolds.

Scope and Contents

Comprises two binders of photocopied materials compiled by Francella R Poston, and covering the NC Citizens Committee for Better Schools, and schools and education in NC, with an emphasis on Asheville. None of the materials are original and many are copies of documents held by Pack Library in Asheville. The materials have been removed from the binders, but the original order has been maintained, and the original location recorded in the finding aid.
