Scope and Contents

Contains the records of the History Club of Asheville. Although the club was formed in 1909, all the early records have been lost. Consequently, many materials in the collection are member's recollections of their own, and the the club's, histories. This initiative was themed "Recovering of Past", and it was prevalent in 1995-97, with a large number of documents, photographs, and recordings relating to meetings during those years. The histories sometimes recur in different parts of the collection, featuring in the scrapbook, as well as members' histories and other retrospectives. The recordings appear to have been made by Dorothy Joynes, a club member, who also created the Voices of Asheville oral history collection held in Ramsey Library. More recent materials include yearbooks/programs, photographs of meetings and picnics, and documents compiled to celebrate the club's centenary in 2009.
