| Description | Verne Rhoades attended the nation's first school of forestry on the Biltmore Estate. He entered the U.S. Forest Service in 1910 and directed the acquisition of the lands for Pisgah National Forest. He is known for his primary role in the development of the "Cradle of Forestry". The Rhoades Science building on the campus of University of North Carolina at Asheville was named in his honor and is testament to his generosity and deep commitment to education. |
