Scope and Contents

In 2002, Schulman's department store in Sylva, N.C. closed after seventy years of being owned by Sol Schulman. The following year historians Sharon Fahrer and Jan Schochet published The Man Who Lived on Main Street, a book of stories by, and about, Sol Schulman and his life in Sylva. As research for the book, Fahrer and Schochet conducted a series of interviews, and this collection comprises recordings of these interviews.

Contents of Mini Discs have been included as written on the disc label since the equipment to play the discs is not available. Contents of Tape 1 have been identified through listening to the recording, but may include errors and/or omissions. The collection contains audio cassette tapes "1" and "3", but not tape "2".
