Scope and Contents
A collection of photographic negatives and descriptions of twenty images portraying events and people in Madison County, NC, in the first half of the 20th century, primarily circa 1905 to 1930, although many images have not been dated. The subjects include former soldiers, education, social groups, events, and buildings. In 1982, fifteen photographs and descriptions were donated to the Southern Highlands Research Center, but by 1993 these were listed as missing. It is believed that the negatives in this collection were taken from the fifteen 1982 photographs, plus some additional images from an unidentified source. The descriptions included in the collection may or may not be from the 1982 descriptions, and could contain errors. They are however presented as the best available information.
