Scope and Contents
Contains photographic negatives taken primarily during the 1950s and 1960s. The subjects covered (businesses, auto accidents, local events) suggest the work of a commercial photographer, possibly E M Ball, rather than an amateur. Geographically, the collection centers on Asheville and western North Carolina, but there are also some shots from Raleigh, NC.

Custodial History
The provenance of the materials in this collection is unknown. The negatives were discovered in Special Collections in spring 2016, but no record of their origin has, so far, been found. That the negatives were organized and arranged alphabetically suggests cataloging and arrangement of the materials was undertaken, presumably by the photographer, and that these negatives only span "A" to "Ca" would seem to indicate that there was originally a substantially greater number of negatives in the photographer's collection. The subjects covered, and photographic style, are similar to those of E. M. Ball, and the photographs in this collection generally fall in the chronological gap between the E. M. Ball Collection and the Ewart McKinley Ball III Photograph Collection. However, there is no definitive proof of who the photographer was.
