Historical Note

A Woman's Club was formed at Asheville-Biltmore College to provide a social outlet for the cultural and recreational interests of families connected with the college. Membership was open to all women who were members or former members of the administration, faculty, or staff, and wives of those who were members or former members of the administration, faculty, or staff. No definitive date for the formation of the club has been identified has been identified, but sometime in 1966 is thought likely.

When Asheville-Biltmore became UNC Asheville in 1969, the club changed its name to the Woman's Club of the University of North Carolina at Asheville. The undated constitution for the UNC Asheville club included in this collection has some changes from the 1996-67 constitution, but it is not known when these changes were made.

Because most of the materials in this collection date from post 1969, the Woman's Club of the University of North Carolina at Asheviile has been used for the title.
