Biographical Note

Lauren (Larry) Wilson was Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UNC Asheville when UNC President C.D. Spangler appointed him Interim Chancellor, to succeed Chancellor Samuel Schuman on January 1, 1994. Dr. Wilson held the position until Patsy Reed became the Chancellor, when he returned to his vice chancellor role.

Dr. Wilson moved to UNC-A in 1987 after twenty four years at Ohio Wesleyan University where he had been chair of the Department of Chemistry, dean of academic affairs, acting provost, and executive assistant to the president. After graduating from Baker University, he gained a doctorate at the University of Kansas, and prior to Ohio Wesleyan, he was a visiting scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

A small collection of historically significant official papers of Lauren Wilson from the period he served as Interim Chancellor of UNC Asheville in 1994.

Materials from Dr. Wilson's role as vice chancellor for academic affairs, a position he held before and after his interim chancellorship, are not included in this archive.
