Biographical Note
Born in Port Arthur, Texas in 1936, Pasty Reed was educated at, the University of Texas at Austin (BS Home Economics; MS Nutrition; Ph.D. Biological Sciences: Nutrition, Biochemistry, and Genetics), and the University of Virginia, Charlottesville (Postdoctoral Fellow in Physical Chemistry).
In April 1994, Dr. Reed was elected Chancellor of the University of North Carolina Asheville and took office on June 15, 1994. Before moving to Asheville she had served at Northern Arizona University in several capacities, including interim president. She also taught nutrition at Northern Arizona University and Idaho State University, and had been an organic chemistry research chemist at the University of Heidelberg in Germany.
During Dr. Reed's chancellorship, a 10 year Masterplan for facilities development was finalized, several buildings, including the library, Kellogg Center, and Southridge residence hall, were either completed or upgraded, and initiatives, including Founder's Day, were commenced.
On October 8, 1998, Patsy Reed announced her intent to retire as of June 30, 1999.
