Biographical Note
Lauren (Larry) Wilson became Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UNC Asheville on July 1, 1987. After graduating from Baker University, he gained a doctorate at the University of Kansas, and was a visiting scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Before moving to UNCA, he had spent twenty four years at Ohio Wesleyan University where he had been chair of the Department of Chemistry, dean of academic affairs, acting provost, and executive assistant to the president.
In January 1994, following the resignation of UNCA Chancellor Samuel Schuman, UNC President C.D. Spangler appointed Wilson Interim Chancellor. When Patsy Reed became Chancellor in July 1994, Wilson returned to his vice chancellor role.
Larry Wilson left UNCA in 1995, to become president of Marietta College, Ohio.
Scope and Contents
This archive holds historically significant official papers of Lauren Wilson, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs of UNC Asheville from 1987 to 1995. Records from Dr. Wilson's brief tenure as Interim Chancellor in 1994 are in UA3.8 .
