Historical Note
The origins of the Student Government Association at UNC-Asheville are unclear. William Highsmith notes in "The University of North Carolina at Asheville, The First Sixty Years", that in 1948, Johnny Tipton was elected president of the SGA, so some form of government existed at Asheville-Biltmore College. However, the present structure originates from the creation of UNC-A in 1969 when the first session of the student senate was held.
Scope and Contents
This archives holds historically significant official papers of the student government at The University of North Carolina Asheville, and its predecessor, Asheville-Biltmore College. The materials have not been separated for the two schools. A large part of the archive is legislation and minutes of the student senate.
