Historical Note

The materials in this collection relate to the financial managers of Asheville-Biltmore College and the University of North Carolina Asheville between 1959 and 1994, and primarily originate from William Jenkins and William Pott.

William S. Jenkins became the Business Manger for Asheville-Biltmore College in 1951, a position he held until his retirement in 1968. After a short period during which John Neuse acted as interim Business Manager, William H. Pott, a former state auditor, was appointed Business Manager on July 1, 1969. On the same day, Asheville-Biltmore College officially became the University of North Carolina Asheville, a state-funded university. In 1971, Pott's title changed to Vice Chancellor for Financial Affairs, and he was VC until October 1, 1989 when he retired, and was succeeded by Arthur P. Foley.
