Historical Note

The North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement was launched in 1987 to advance the "quality of life for retirees and pre-retirees and the quality of the communities in which they live". The Center was developed by UNC Asheville as a not-for-profit affiliate that had three objectives: provide an educational need, promote the economic development of the region, and facilitate research in issues pertaining to older adults. The Center operated a range of programs, including the College for Seniors. In 2012 the center was renamed, and became the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI).

This archive holds historically significant materials regarding the North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement (now Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) at UNC Asheville. The materials cover the period immediately prior to the creation of the Center in 1987, through 1996.
