Description This small collection of tally books and a grocery store ledger are in photocopy form only.  The originals were retained by family of the Gahagans.  The lumber tally books record the activity of logging, hauling, and other labor associated with independent lumber operations in western North Carolina. 

The lumber operations in this collection center on Madison County in western North Carolina and include activity from approximately 1900 to 1913. William Gahagan was associated with the McEwen family as the two families were both in the lumbering business.
