Biographical Note
Morris Karpen (1916-2002) owned a custom-door manufacturer in Long Island, NY before he retired to North Carolina. In NC he formed Karpen Steel Products Co. and later Karpen Laser, Inc., in a plant just north of Weaverville. He and his wife Leah supported many philanthropic causes in Western North Carolina.
Scope and Contents
A small collection containing personal materials and items related to Morris Karpen's involvement with the International Service Corps, and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. Also included are documents from Karpen's run for Buncombe County commissioner, and the donation of land for a soccer field in Weaverville. With the exception of the election materials, which have been split into correspondence and clippings, the arrangement reflects the original foldering. A number of photographs are included as digital only images.(ie. the actual photographs are not available.) No materials from Morris Karpen's business interests are included in this collection.
