332 Hand-made copper and brass torches, tallow pots, brass and copper engineer's oil cans, coffee pots for engines and cabooses, etc., were made in various Southern Railway roundhouses in steam days. Generally they were made by machinists. The above items were made in the period of 1905-1911 by machinist Charles Eric Kneeburg, machinist in Spencer Shops. Mr. Kneeburg was born in Stockholm, Sweden and when a young man came to the U.S. to work at Spencer roundhouse. Work done in the various roundhouses for employees and occasionally officials was called "government work."
