Description | A visual historical overview of the National Climatic Data Center when it was located in the historic Grove Arcade building in Asheville, NC. The Center is now located in the Federal Building, in Asheville, NC. This small collection of photographs, newspaper clippings, and correspondence, was gathered by Robert Quayle, a former employee of the National Climatic Data Center. The collected materials trace the development of the Center while in the Grove Arcade and visually documents its history in the Grove Arcade building and its move to the new location. The collection also contains information on the staff of the National Climatic Data Center and the activity of the Center during its years in the Grove Arcade location. The collection is in virtual form only. The digital surrogates of the original materials were donated to Special Collections for distribution to the public by former staff of the National Climatic Data Center and additional images were derived from the E.M. Ball Collection held by UNC Asheville, Special Collections. The most recent additions to the collection that depict the interior of the Grove Arcade as it underwent restoration in 2003- 2005, were taken by former employees of the National Climatic Data Center. Today the Grove Arcade serves as a community arcade of shops, restaurants, condominiums, and public service organizations. | |
