| Description | The collection consists of one
photograph album containing pictures of the Oteen Hospital as it was in
use during the years of World War I. The 68 page album contains
276 photographs that depict life at the hospital, in the Oteen area, and
beyond, and that has some relationship to Jessie Morris, the nurse
who worked there and who both photographed and collected the images in
this album. Jesse Morris was the daughter of Dr. Beverly Preston
Morris and Mary Louise Watts (m. 1855) of Amherst County,
VA. Dr. Morris was reportedly the first doctor in Amherst County during
the Civil War.
An additional photograph was added to the collection by Alan Lynch on June 15 which shows two young men at Oteen in 1921. Their identity is not known and any identification would be welcomed. findingaids/photo/massie_oteen/jpg_massie/Unknown0002 - Oteen, NC - 1923.jpg |
