Thomas B. Justice, Sr. (July 27, 1813 - April 9, 1892)

Relationship to the Speculation Lands:
Thomas succeeded his father, James Dyer Justice, as the second southern representative to the Speculation Land Company.
Biography:
Thomas Butler Justice Sr. was born in Henderson County in 1813. Thomas was the second child of James Dyer Justice and Anthorite Thomas Justice. He married Harriet Bailey in 1834 and proceeded to have seven children, including the Reverend C. Baylus Justice. Thomas became licensed to preach in 1840, and served as the moderator of the Green River Baptist Association in 1871, 1874, and 1880. T.B. Justice also served as pastor of the Silver Creek, White Oak, and Rock Spring churches in Polk County, which he gave up in 1883 due to declining health. Sometimes after this, he moved from Polk County back to Rutherford County, and died at the home of his son, Reverend C.B. Justice, in Rutherfordton, on April 9, 1892.

0095 - Letter from Frederick Bronson, Agent, to T. B. Justice, Rutherfordton, North Carolina dated April 24, 1855. The letter is in response to an inquiry from T. B. Justice and authorizes the leasing and mining of the Davis Mine in Union County. The letter states that the Lease conditions are for three years and that the tenant must pay for equipment and pay one-eighth of the gross proceeds. 

0131 - Indemnity Bond dated May 31, 1854. Concerns a lawsuit in Rutherford County and involves John Ward and J. J. Hoyt. Signed by Thomas B. Justice.
